OVERVIEW

We know it can sometimes be challenging to get great programs into your school. Cost shouldn't be a prohibitive factor when it comes to bringing social emotional learning into more schools. The Gigi Grant provides financial assistance to schools that show strong commitment to providing NaliniKIDS to their students.

The Gigi Grant provides funding toward student and teacher materials, while schools cover the cost of mandatory teacher training. The grant may be awarded for 1 or 2 years.

We invite grant applications from teachers, school counselors, and administrators (if an application is completed by a teacher or school counselor, it must be done with the support of an administrator). All types of schools—public, private, independent, and charter schools—are welcome to apply.

OUR APPLICATION PROCESS IS DIFFERENT

There's one important thing you should keep in mind when filling out your application: no matter what, we want to work with you and your students.

Research shows that NaliniKIDS improves a school’s community.

Applying for a grant can feel frustrating—you're often guessing what to write and crossing your fingers that you will even hear back (sometimes it feels like you send applications into a black hole!). Our application process is different.

  1. While the questions we ask are serious, how you answer them can be fun! Our number one goal is to get to know your school community. Our application gives you space to express yourselves and share who you are with us in a way that feels authentic to your community.

  2. We'll provide you with dates and deadlines so you'll know when you can expect to hear from us—and you will hear from us! At each stage of the process, which will last less than a month, you will receive feedback from NaliniKIDS staff.

During the 2016–2017 academic year, a research team from Teachers College at Columbia University conducted an independent evaluation of NaliniKIDS. This study measured changes in empathy, peer relations, and emotional wellness post-program participation.

The researchers explored the experiences of youth, teachers, and school administrators with the NaliniKIDS program and its tangible and measured impact on the quality of the broader school environment.

The Gigi Grant is made possible by Pinak Mehta, who honors his parents, Vidyaguari and Ambalal Mehta, with this grant. Vidyaguari and Ambalal both valued education and community. Vidyaguari (called Gigi by her loved ones) was known for her commitment to learning and for being an amazing orator, with a gift for language. Ambalal was a humble man, whose strong moral values and work ethic united his family and those around him.
